Drive-through inspection system for a moving vehicle

This invention describes a system for inspecting vehicles as they drive through a lane. Sensors positioned along only one side of the lane measure various points on the vehicle as it passes. A computer then analyzes these measurements to determine characteristics like the vehicle's speed, alignment, or dimensions, and can even filter out bad data points.

Why it matters: Since 2015, optical sensing technologies have become more precise and cost-effective, while advancements in real-time data processing and machine learning make complex geometric calculations and outlier detection more robust and efficient.
