Object detection and classification

This invention describes a system that uses images from two different cameras, each with its own view, to find objects. It then classifies the object seen by the second camera into two categories. The system tries to match the object from the first camera to the object from the second camera by comparing their descriptions and how confident the system is about those descriptions. One specific way it finds objects is by detecting when they block something in the background.

Why it matters: Filed before the widespread adoption of advanced deep learning models for object detection and classification. The core computer vision tasks described are now significantly more accurate and efficient, making the system much more feasible to implement and perform reliably.
