Virtual reality smoking system

This invention describes a system for simulating smoking using virtual or augmented reality. A user holds a device shaped like a cigarette, which contains a sensor to track its movement. This data is used to generate images of a burning cigarette and smoke, displayed to the user through a head-mounted device, creating the illusion of smoking in a virtual setting or superimposed on their real environment.

Why it matters: Filed before consumer-grade VR/AR head-mounted displays and advanced motion sensors were widely available. Today's powerful HMDs and ubiquitous IMUs make this concept far more feasible and accessible.
