Dual sensor camera

This camera uses two separate image sensors, each with its own lens. One lens captures a wide-angle view, and the other captures a zoomed-in view, both with the same light-gathering ability. The camera combines these two images into one by digitally enlarging the wide view and shrinking the zoomed view, with specific scaling factors tied to the field of view difference. The zoomed lens might be specially designed to allow software to make its depth of focus appear similar to the wide-angle image, preventing an odd visual mismatch.

Why it matters: Filed before multi-camera systems and advanced computational photography became standard in consumer devices. The significant increase in mobile processing power since 2014 makes the complex real-time image fusion and optional EDoF processing much more feasible.
