Microbial control with reduced chlorine

This invention describes a way to control microbes by releasing a special vapor into an enclosed space. The vapor is primarily hypochlorous acid, but it's designed to have very little chlorine in it, less than 1% of the hypochlorous acid concentration. This reduction in chlorine is achieved by using a desiccant, making the disinfection process less irritating.

Why it matters: Miniaturized electrolysis systems for on-demand HOCl generation have become more common since 2007. This makes the controlled, low-chlorine vapor delivery described in the claims more practical for diverse applications.
