Faucet assembly with water quality indicator

This invention describes a faucet that tracks how long water flows through it to estimate filter usage. When the faucet is turned on, a magnet on the internal valve aligns with a sensor, which starts a timer. The faucet then uses colored lights to show if the filter is still good or needs replacing based on the accumulated usage time.

Why it matters: Electronics like Hall effect sensors and microcontrollers have become significantly cheaper and more integrated since 2006. This makes the system much more cost-effective to produce now.
