Non-contact thermal platforms

This invention describes a system for heating or cooling an object without touching it. It uses two platforms, one above the other, that both heat or cool the object and support it on a cushion of fluid. Pressurized fluid flows through tiny outlets on the platforms, creating a non-contact support, while other channels balance the fluid flow.

Why it matters: Filed before advanced manufacturing techniques, like micro-machining and additive manufacturing, made such complex integrated fluidic and thermal platforms more feasible to produce with high precision. This enables finer control over non-contact thermal processing.
