Method for electronic payment

This invention describes a payment system where a customer tells a merchant their order details. The merchant then sends some of this information to a central system. This central system contacts the customer's phone, which then securely sends payment details back to the central system. Finally, the central system forwards these payment details to a bank's processor for approval, either directly or through the merchant's processor.

Why it matters: Filed before widespread smartphone adoption and mature mobile payment ecosystems. Today, secure mobile app development and robust financial APIs make the direct, secure interaction between a customer's phone and a payment system much more feasible, potentially reducing merchant data handling.
