Membrane filter for water treatment

This invention describes a specialized top part, or "head piece," for a water filter. This head piece holds a bundle of vertical, hollow fibers that clean water. Clean water flows into the head piece through the open bottom ends of these fibers, while their sealed top ends can move freely in the dirty water. The head piece also includes a removable basket made of rods and rings to support the fibers, and an air duct for cleaning them.

Why it matters: Manufacturing techniques for complex plastic and metal parts have advanced significantly since 2006, making the custom head piece and basket more feasible to produce. Additionally, the performance and cost of capillary membranes have improved.
