Zoom lens system

This invention describes a zoom lens system, primarily for cameras, that achieves magnification changes by moving several internal lens groups. Specifically, it uses four main lens groups arranged with alternating positive and negative refractive powers. For focusing, only a small sub-group within the first lens group moves, allowing the front of the lens to remain stationary.

Why it matters: Filed before widespread adoption of mirrorless cameras and advanced computational photography. Modern miniaturized actuators and precision optical manufacturing could make this complex inner-focusing design more viable or higher performing today.
