Tearable elastic composite article and method of manufacture

This is a stretchy material made from two layers of fabric with elastic threads sandwiched in between. At least one of the outer fabric layers is a nonwoven material, like a disposable wipe, which has pre-made weak spots or tear lines. These tear patterns are formed in the nonwoven layer before it's assembled with the other components to create the final elastic material.

Why it matters: Filed before advanced laser scoring and digital control over nonwoven material modification became widely available. Manufacturing precise, complex tear patterns in nonwoven fabrics is now more efficient and cost-effective.
