Decoy

This invention describes a method to protect a target from an incoming missile by creating a fake image of the target in the air. It uses a system of barrels, each packed with multiple projectiles containing material that forms an image. When a missile is detected, the system calculates where to project a decoy image and then fires many projectiles at once to create a visual illusion, aiming to divert the missile away from the actual target. The method also allows for refreshing the image and choosing different decoy images based on the target.

Why it matters: Filed before modern sensor fusion and real-time AI could precisely track missiles and dynamically determine optimal decoy placement. Advances in material science could also enhance image formation.
