Flexible agricultural automation

This invention describes mobile robots that move through farm fields to perform various agricultural tasks like pruning, harvesting, or weeding. Instead of plants moving along an assembly line, these robots bring the "workstation" to the plants, sensing their environment and responding flexibly. The robots are initially guided by an operator but can optionally use GPS and other sensors with computing to navigate themselves and locate specific plants or items in the field.

Why it matters: The cost and capability of mobile robotics, precision GPS, and AI-driven vision systems have dramatically improved since 2002, making the core concept feasible.
