Apparatus and method for initial charging, self-starting, and operation of a power supply with an intermittent and/or variable energy source and a rechargeable energy storage device

This invention describes a power supply that takes energy from an intermittent source and stores it in a capacitor. It then converts this stored energy into a steady voltage to deliver short bursts of power to another device. The key is providing these momentary current pulses from a capacitor with a constant output voltage.

Why it matters: Filed before modern power electronics and supercapacitors were widely available. Today, highly efficient DC-DC converters and advanced capacitor technology make precise pulsed power delivery from intermittent sources much more practical and cost-effective.
