Solar energy conversion devices and systems

This invention describes a solar energy device made of parallel reflective slats. The front surfaces of these slats catch direct sunlight, while their back surfaces are fitted with solar panels. The design reflects and concentrates sunlight from the front of one slat onto the solar panels on the back of nearby slats, generating electricity. The slats are all connected by a shared linkage.

Why it matters: Since 2009, photovoltaic cell efficiency has significantly improved and costs have fallen dramatically, making the integrated PVs described in the claims more viable. Advances in reflective materials and precision manufacturing also benefit the custom slat design.
