System and method for sensing with millimeter waves for sleep position detection, vital signs monitoring and/or driver detection

This invention describes a system that uses very high-frequency radio waves, called millimeter waves, to detect a person's sleeping position. It works by transmitting these waves towards a sleeping person and then receiving the reflections. A computer system analyzes the strength and angle of these reflected waves, often using machine learning, to figure out how the person is positioned.

Why it matters: Since 2020, the integration of millimeter-wave radar sensors into more compact and cost-effective modules has advanced. Concurrently, the proliferation of specialized edge AI processors makes the complex signal processing and machine learning required for this system more feasible and efficient.
