Marker-based shared augmented reality session creation

This invention describes a way for two people to share the same augmented reality (AR) experience using their separate devices. One device displays a special visual marker, which the second device's camera detects. By analyzing this marker, the second device figures out its exact position relative to the first, allowing both devices to agree on a common virtual space and display the same AR content.

Why it matters: Filed as mobile AR frameworks were maturing. Since 2023, the underlying computer vision and AR rendering capabilities on consumer devices have become more robust and accessible, simplifying the implementation of shared AR experiences.
