Event extraction from documents with co-reference

This invention describes a software service that can read documents and identify important events and the real-world objects or people involved in those events. It works by finding phrases that signal an event (triggers) and phrases that refer to objects or people (entities), then figuring out what role each entity plays in the event. Crucially, it also determines when different phrases in the text refer to the same event or the same object, providing a clearer, structured understanding of the document's content.

Why it matters: Filed before the widespread adoption and capabilities of large language models. Tasks like semantic analysis, named entity recognition, and co-reference resolution, which were complex in 2020, are now significantly more efficient and accurate using current LLM technologies.
