Robotic inspection devices for simultaneous surface measurements at multiple orientations

This invention describes a robotic device designed to inspect surfaces, like those on industrial equipment or structures. The robot moves along the surface in one direction, while a special attachment on it scans back and forth across the surface in a different direction. This attachment holds two ultrasonic sensors, each pointed at a slightly different angle, allowing the device to take multiple measurements of the surface and its interior at the same time. One sensor is positioned almost parallel to the surface, while the other is at a distinct, but unspecified, angle.

Why it matters: Filed before recent advancements in AI-driven ultrasonic data analysis. Processing simultaneous, multi-orientation inspection data for internal defects is now more efficient with advanced machine learning.
