This invention describes an electronic device, like a laptop, that uses its microphone to listen to the surrounding sounds. It figures out if there's a specific sound it should pay attention to, like a person speaking, and how much background noise is present. If the important sound is clear enough above the background noise, the device will then quiet its cooling fan, either by slowing it down or turning it off entirely, to avoid interfering with the sound. It might also reduce the processor's power to manage heat when the fan is restricted.
