Electronic identification verification methods and systems with storage of certification records to a side chain

This invention describes a system for verifying a user's identity electronically. It works by taking a user's data, combining it with a unique secret, and then scrambling it. A certifying authority then digitally signs this scrambled data using their private key, creating a unique certification record whose hash is stored on a main blockchain, while the full record is stored on a separate side chain.

Why it matters: Filed when side chain infrastructure was still nascent. The intervening years have seen significant maturation of side chain development kits and interoperability standards, making such a system more practical to implement for verifiable digital credentials.
