Vehicle moonroof systems for docking and cooling unmanned aerial vehicles

This invention describes a car moonroof that opens to reveal a special compartment designed to hold a drone. This compartment, called a pod assembly, has a movable hatch and is configured to dock, deploy, and land a drone. While docked, the system can also charge and cool the drone.

Why it matters: Since 2019, drone autonomy and precision landing capabilities have significantly improved, making automated docking more reliable. Concurrently, advancements in vehicle power management and integration systems simplify incorporating such a complex module into a car.
