Movement robot

This invention describes a robot designed to move and interact with other moving objects or people. It uses sensors to map its surroundings and detect other moving bodies. The robot can then be instructed to either follow the detected moving body closely, or to move in a separate, coordinated path, dividing tasks with the other moving body.

Why it matters: Filed in 2018, the intervening years have seen significant advancements in affordable, high-precision LiDAR and vision-based simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) systems, making the real-time environmental mapping and object tracking described more robust and accessible for mobile robots.
