Method for improving resolution in LCD screen based 3D printers

This invention describes a way to make 3D printed objects smoother and more detailed when using a specific type of 3D printer that cures liquid resin with an LCD screen. Instead of just turning whole pixels on or off, the method controls the tiny sub-pixels within each pixel. It calculates how much of the 3D object's cross-section falls into each pixel and then adjusts the brightness of the sub-pixels accordingly, creating finer resolution. The claims specifically describe this for a stereolithographic 3D printer using a liquid photopolymer vat, and note that the LCD screen can be monochromatic.

Why it matters: Filed before monochromatic LCDs became standard in consumer 3D printers. Advances in slicing software and GPU processing since 2019 make implementing complex sub-pixel control more practical.
