A robot is mounted on a moving platform. As the platform moves, a camera on it takes pictures of a marker that indicates the position of a part the robot needs to work on. The robot uses these images to perform its task on the part, even while the platform is in motion. Specifically, the system calculates the relative speed of the marker to the platform and adjusts the robot's pre-programmed movements in real-time.
Why it matters: Filed before widespread adoption of real-time deep learning vision. Modern algorithms can now more robustly calculate relative movement vectors and correct robot paths from camera images, enhancing precision.
