Methods and systems for selective sensor fusion

This invention describes a system for a moving object, like a robot or vehicle, that uses multiple cameras to understand its surroundings. It includes at least one camera that can see in 3D (like human eyes) and another that sees in 2D. The system first figures out the cameras' positions and the environment, then decides which camera mode—3D or 2D—is best for gathering image data at that moment.
