Telescopic drive, stacker crane comprising same and operating method and use therefor

This invention describes a telescopic drive system primarily for stacker cranes in automated warehouses. It features a base with a fixed toothed rack, upon which a first carriage moves using a linear guide and an electric motor driving a toothed belt. This first carriage then supports a table, which also moves via a linear guide and has its own toothed rack engaged by the first carriage's toothed belt, enabling a multi-stage extension for reaching items far beyond its initial length.

Why it matters: Filed before the widespread adoption of AI-driven warehouse automation. The decreasing cost and increasing precision of electric motors and control systems make complex, space-saving telescopic drives more economically viable for high-density storage.
