Object detection from visual search queries

This invention describes a system that watches video, automatically identifies objects within it, and extracts details about those objects. It then compares these identified objects to a database of known products, which can be built using automated web searches. If a match is found, the system can notify a viewer, for example, by showing an advertisement for the product.

Why it matters: Since 2017, deep learning models for real-time object detection, video segmentation, and automated metadata extraction have become significantly more powerful and accessible, making the core technical challenges of this system much more tractable.
