This invention describes a system for getting very accurate timestamps for digital information and recording them on a blockchain. A server acts as an intermediary: it takes a digital fingerprint (hash) of data from an author, sends it to a trusted Timestamp Authority (TSA) for precise timing, and returns the timestamp to the author. The author then signs this timestamped fingerprint with their digital certificate, and both the author's signed version and the TSA's signed version are permanently recorded on the blockchain.
Why it matters: Filed before widespread adoption of blockchain oracles and Web3 infrastructure. Today, integrating external trusted services like TSAs for precise, verifiable timestamps on-chain is more streamlined and demanded for digital asset provenance.
