Medical devices and related methods

This invention describes a system to measure how well someone can exercise. It uses a wireless band worn on a finger that measures blood oxygen levels with a light sensor, similar to a pulse oximeter. A separate motion sensor tracks how much the person is moving. A computer then combines these two measurements – the drop in oxygen and the amount of effort from movement – to calculate and display an exercise tolerance score. The first claim specifies that the fingerband is elastic.

Why it matters: Since 2015, miniaturized, low-power optical and motion sensors have become ubiquitous in consumer wearables. This makes the specialized hardware for a wireless fingerband and its associated complex signal processing more feasible and cost-effective to develop today.
