Video analytic rule detection system and method

This invention describes a video surveillance system that allows a user to set up custom monitoring rules. Instead of manually programming rules, the system enters a special configuration mode where it tracks an object, such as a person or a vehicle, in a video feed. This tracking information is then used to automatically define the surveillance rules for that object's behavior.

Why it matters: Filed in 2013, before the widespread adoption of deep learning. Modern AI and machine learning models, particularly for object detection and tracking, have dramatically improved accuracy and reduced computational overhead, making the automated rule definition described much more robust and easier to implement today.
